Fabio Joel Tunno grew up in a small town in southern Italy. From an early age, however, he began travelling extensively, immersing himself in different cultures and broadening his horizons. He is currently based in Bremen, Germany, where he studies Jazz Guitar at the University of the Arts (HFK). He is also completing his training as a Mindfulness Teacher at the Institute for Mindfulness-Based Approaches (IMA).
Music & Mindfulness are at the heart of Joel's daily life and a constant source of inspirations. His passion for music emerged relatively late in life. Before embarking on his artistic path, he spent several years travelling, engaging with different cultures and expanding his worldview. Upon returning to Italy, he studied Anthropology at the University of Bologna before leaving academia to devote himself fully to music and humanitarian causes. It was through this last path, while leading a guitar workshop for refugees on the Greek island of Lesvos, that he met Elena Yaqubee. Together, they founded the project "34 Afghan Windows", which they have been developing over the past few years.
Driven by a constant desire to contribute to positive social change, Joel is currently involved in several artistic projects centred on the idea of socially "engaged art". At the same time, he collaborates with a wide range of musical ensembles, from intimate duos to larger quintets. Sensitive, thoughtful, and deeply introspective, his artistic expression reflects both his love for musical diversity and cultures from around the world, as well as an ongoing journey of inner exploration.
After almost a decade of artistic experimentation and musical research through jazz, funk, pop, and blues, Joel discovered the profound joy of using music in service of a greater purpose. Having found his own artistic voice, he chose, through his main project, ‘34 Afghan Windows’ to use his guitar and original compositions to amplify the voices of Afghan women who have been silenced and of refugees forced to leave their homelands in search of dignity. In his artistic vision, music becomes an "emotion breaker", a powerful medium capable of giving words greater emotional depth and allowing them to resonate more deeply within the human spirit.
