InterConnection

On stage, the instruments awaken of their own accord, and through the magic of music, the musician’s inner world is gently unveiled. The "I" dissolves. The individual fades away. What remains is the "We", a mystical bond between music and those who create and receive it, carrying every emotion that unfolds in the present moment.

Some lives intersect and intertwine through the universal language of music. Music knows no boundaries or age; it is an open space that welcomes everyone and brings together even what may seem irreconcilable.

"INTERCONNECTION" was born from this vision: a meeting place where musicians from different countries and linguistic backgrounds connect through the magic of music.

The band performs a repertoire that spans contemporary jazz, reimagines traditional standards with a modern approach, and is enriched by original compositions. Oriental influences, experimental sounds, and a boundless openness to diverse musical worlds create a rich sonic landscape of limitless interconnections.

Introduction

About the band

Piano: Yadamjav Battogtokh
Drums: Frederik Palupski
Guitar: Fabio Joel Tunno
Saxophone: Moritz Christiansen

Yadamjav Battogtokh is a classically trained pianist who received his training in Russia. He is currently studying jazz at the University of the Arts Bremen and is working on various projects in collaboration with musicians from a range of genres.

Martin Gruet studied classical double bass in Paris and Dublin; he then joined the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and continued his training at jazz workshops. He has been based in Bremen since 2010 and tours Ireland, the UK, France and Germany, taking part in a wide variety of projects. He has also performed with the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, including with Rebekka Bakken.

Frederik Palupski began by studying classical piano and later came into contact with jazz. However, role models such as Joe Morello, Tony Williams, Art Blakey and Elvin Jones exerted a lasting fascination on the young musician from an early age. Following numerous experimental youth projects as a classical percussionist, drummer, bassist and keyboardist, he has been studying jazz drumming at the University of the Arts Bremen since 2022.

Moritz Christiansen is a saxophonist and composer. He spent several years in Denmark and Iceland, where he was an active part of the music scene. He has now returned to northern Germany and lives in Hamburg, where he is studying for a Jazz Master’s degree at the Dr Langner Academy of Music and Theatre. In various projects of his own and as part of projects by his fellow musicians, he explores music at the intersection of melodic (Scandinavian) jazz and free improvisation.

The main band, a quintet, was formed within the walls of the HFK in Bremen and has already had the opportunity to perform beyond the institution in public venues. The group was founded following Joel’s proposal to explore a contemporary jazz repertoire, featuring carefully selected pieces drawn from the rich and diverse tradition of jazz. The musicians’ goal is to gradually develop this repertoire into original compositions, giving the band a distinctive artistic identity. Although the project primarily performs as a quintet, it is also flexible enough to appear in smaller ensembles, including a duo (guitar and bass), a trio (guitar, bass, and drums), or a quartet (guitar, bass, drums, and piano).
